Bai Yuechu (Chinese: 白月初) is the main male protagonist of the series, the 5th and latest reincarnation of Dongfang Yuechu, and bridegroom boyfriend of Tushan Susu. In his past life as Dongfang, he was engaged to Honghong and made a Pledge of Love with her under the Tree of Bitter Love.
Tushan Susu is his true love and so-called "child groom." The couple works together on their matchmaking adventures to reunite yaoguai and humans.
Appearance[]
Bai Yuechu has long black hair normally tied in a tight braid wrapped around his neck. He is always seen wearing his school uniform: a white t-shirt that says "rise from poverty" (脱贫) on the front and "become rich" at the back with blue pants. He also sometimes wears a blue and white jacket that he keeps partially zipped up (though he zips it all the way up when trying to act more formal).
Personality[]
Although he is a Daoist, Bai Yuechu is extremely greedy, most likely because of the way he was treated as a child. He is also broke so he naturally likes to hoard things and is always looking for a way to get things for free. For example, he used to charge Susu extravagant amounts of candy in return for his help or her protection. In addition to this, he generally isn't motivated to do anything, even in the most dire of situations, unless he would profit from it.
He is also very fond of food and has a "bottomless pit" in his stomach. Because of this, people often use food (and money) to bribe him or to lure him into traps, though he is able to resist it to a certain degree depending on the situation.
History[]
As a child, he was taken care of by the Yi Qi Dao League, but developed a distaste for them due to how they treated him. He was not allowed near candy, money, or women. This has shaped him into the greedy person he is. Not much is known about his childhood with his father Bai Qiuen, but it seems that his father sees him as a source of money.

The Yi Qi Dao League closely monitored Bai and tried to control whom he dated and tried to marry.
As a Daoist, Bai wielded tremendous powers including Pure Yang Flame and Tear Void, some of which he learned from Aolai.

When he discovers that he is the 5th incarnation of Dongfang Yuechu, he initially resists Rongrong's attempts to remember his past. However, in Season 3, he eventually recalls his past life with Honghong and Jin Renfeng. He remembers that he was raised in Tushan and one day wanted to propose to Honghong, only to find out that her heart was already occupied by the Small Daoist. Dongfang Yuechu then set off on a quest to travel the world to fulfill Honghong's dream: to reunite humans and Yaoguai. Only when Dongfang is about to die at the hands of the Heihu Queen, does Honghong reveal her deep love for him. They make a Heart Oath using one of his eyes' Xukong Zhilei as a fabao.[1]

In the present, Bai Yuechu helps Susu overcome her nightmare about the Small Daoist, dispelling Zuoshi's Nightmare Fox and saying that Susu's feelings for the Small Daoist were not true love as it held her back and made her feel bad. Bai and Susu then help win the Battle of Tushan and restore Shi Kuan's love with Yuyao Princess. After that, they are celebrated as Tushan heroes and arranged to marry. However, Susu is a bit reluctant because her sister Yaya is forcing her to marry. Bai realizes this and advises Susu to leave the wedding ceremony and flee to realize her dreams. Once Susu flees, Bai prevents Yaya from going after her, saying that he would never have Yaya force Susu to marry him until Susu wants to herself.[2]
After Arc 5, Yaya realizes that the Love Thermometer indicating Bai and Susu's love has not changed and demands them to try harder at loving each other. Suddenly, a disguised Huandu Luolan appears, feeding Bai great food, making Susu jealous. Luolan eventually kidnaps Bai, turning him into a chicken. Susu then goes on an adventure to Nanguo to win back Bai from Luolan. The Tushan sisters, realizing that the Love Thermometer is increasing in temperature are pleased with the development and let Susu chase after Bai.

In Nanguo, Susu and the others discover that one of Bai's past incarnations Pingqiu Yuechu was living inside him and that Luolan was going to kill Bai to resurrect Pingqiu, her former lover. Susu and Bai Qiuen ultimately help rescue Bai from Luolan's poison Gudu spells and Love Gu. Susu then begins hugging Bai, missing him more than ever and saying she wants him by her side.[3]

Pure Yang Flame[]
Bai Yuechu is able to both summon the Pure Yang Flame (Chunzhi Yangyan) and manipulate it. He is completely immune to its effects and can reside in its flames for extensive periods of time. This ability is due to him having Dongfang blood and being Dongfang Yuechu's reincarnation.
Tears of the Void[]
As the reincarnation of Dongfang Yuechu, he is able to use the Tears of the Void (Xukong Zhilei) as it was used as the Magical Vessel for the Pledge of Love, though he only possesses half of it in his right eye, the other half was taken away from him in his previous life as Dongfang Yuechu. More importantly, Tears of the Void's strength is proportionate to the sorrow known to the individual and it has been stated that Bai Yuechu does not know what is sorrow thus, his Tears of the Void does not come close to its actual strength. It has the potential to change the past and future by rewriting time.
Caterpillar Assault[]
Caterpillar Assault (毛毛虫突击): Due to perennial starvation, he has trained his core muscles to the extent of moving around even while tied up (as long as he is not hung up).
Heaven and Earth Devour[]
Tunshi Qingli (吞噬情力) or Qitun Tiandi (气吞天地) allows Yuechu to swallow anything, including the Tears of the Void. He stores it in his body and releases it by spitting it out. He can also use this method to absorb magic. He usually only uses this when he is out of magic and is often a last resort.
Extendable Staff / As-Wish Rod Art[]
Extendable Staff: Yuechu has a staff that is able to extend and widen to reach enemies that are a long distance away. He can still use it even when it's broken. His staff is a reference to Sun Wukong's Ruyi Jingu Bang (如意金箍棒) and probably something he learned to use from the Master of Aolai. His dad Bai Qiuen also seems to use one as well. It is a degraded version of Aolai Guo's Cudgel of Eternity.

Daoist Incantations[]
Yuechu is skilled in using various different Daoist spells, charms and seals. As these usually cost money, he tries to avoid using them unless truly necessary.
- Shocking awesome invincible seal of immobility that can seduce a child to commit a crime (惊天霹雳无敌勾引儿童犯罪定身符): a Daoist seal that immobilizes target and then incites children to attack the target and play practical jokes (like face painting) while the target is immobilized.[5]
- Teleportation Seal
- Thousand Jun Weight Leg Charm (千钧坠腿符 Jun is unit of weight measurement): Attaches seals to his arms and legs to increase his speed and strength.
- Invisibility Seal (隐身符)
- Smoke Screen Seal (浓烟符)
- Earth Traversal Seal: allows travel through the ground.
