Yueti fends off Mutian Baron with the Jungle Corrosion Flowers. She tries to escape and warn others about this scam and trap, but encounters another veiled person who attacks her. However, Fan Yunfei rushes in to save Yueti, causing a huge stone slab to fall on the veiled person.
As this is happening, golden spirits arise from a nearby volcano and enter the veiled person's body, destroying the stone slab and resurrecting her. The Mutian Baron sneers, saying that the resurrection spell was actually true.
Azhu then rushes in and carries Yueti Xia away from the danger, escaping alongside Fan Yunfei.
In present, Bai wonders whether the golden spirits and resurrection were similar to the multiple souls in a single body (一体多魂) he encountered in Nanguo. Wrapping up, Bai asks how come Xia did not show up on the day Hu waited to elope with her. Xia is flustered, unwilling to reveal the truth, and escapes on a giant vine, destroying part of Hu's house and enraging Hu's mother.
Suddenly, the two bug spirits from earlier attack but are easily defeated by Bai. The bug spirits reveal that they were sent by their clan leader to force Xia to sign an unequal treaty for the sake of their clan's survival. One of the bug spirits, Xiao Fang (小芳), was supposed to bring the treaty but instead brought a love letter confessing his crush on Yueti all these 18 years.
The bug spirits also brought many bottles of sourceless water (无根之水), essentially rainwater. Bai testing these bottles accidentally sprays some of the water on Hu, who then turns into a tree.
Meanwhile, Xia laments about her past to Azhu. One night, Hu revealed to Xia that he loved cutting down trees with his axe, but this made Xia really uncomfortable for some reason. Xia says she wished Azhu could understand her feelings, but that since he was a mule (which cannot reproduce) he could not understand love. Azhu is then enraged because he is a donkey not a mule.
Bai then arrives, asking Xia to help explain why Hu turned into a tree. The two bug spirits then try to blackmail her, saying they know of the Yueti clan's dark secret: every full moon when sprayed by sourceless water, Yueti transforms into her true form.
