After pressing Xiao Li for information and beating the Fox Sand Emperor (Fan Yunfei's dad), Bai learns the location of the missing vow vessel. The Emperor hands over the Water Pearl, and Bai learns that the water pearl was not used to help the pair remember their memories due to the misfortune it has frequently caused in the past. Fan persists anyways despite the danger and uses the pearl to recover their memories and love.

The Emperor explains that in the past, his son was given the condition by the Sand Fox elders that he could not ascend the throne unless he married the Ice General. When Fan finally convinced Xueyang to marry him after repeated failures (due to the Emperor's idiotic interference), the two declared that they would get married and use the Pearl as a sign of their love. The elders refused to accept this and banished the two from the Xixiyu Sand Fox Kingdom and would not allow them use the Pearl and become Emperor due to it being bad luck.

When Xueyang finally passed away the Emperor learned that they had used the Water Pearl as their pledge item (Fabao), and he refused to part with it as a result. This explained why they had tried to use the Memory Mallets to restore their love instead of the pearl. Meanwhile the second half of the the Water Pearl has showed up as a gallstone in Xueyang and a Disaster Beast of Misfortune appears and begins afflicting the city, while the Tushan fox sisters discuss Bai Yuechu's true identity.
