Below are lists of some common terminologies used in the Fox Spirit Matchmaker franchise.
See Guidelines for some notes on translations. Although some terms have natural English translations, there are times when pinyin transliteration is used instead, for example for many Character names and Locations. Also note that when using pinyin, please use modern pinyin.
The mountain where the Fox Spirits live. It's in the east of the land, on the east of the country of human. The Fox Spirits are famous for their magic to renew the love between monster and human.
The desert in the west of the land where Sand Fox City is built. There were also some other human and monster factions on this land a thousand years ago.
The biggest and most powerful league of Daoism on the land. In the past they fought against spirits and protected mankind. The goal of the league is to establish a new world that both human and monsters can live in together peacefully. The current league was reformed by Dongfang Yuechu more than 500 years ago. The current leader is the Wang Family.
One breath path alliance. Note: Qi refers to life energy, Dao as in Daoism - so when summed together means 'The #1 League of Chi using Daoists.'
Tushan Fox Spirits

The community of fox spirits led by the three sisters -- Honghong, Yaya, and Rongrong. The sisters' strong magic power keeps their land in peace and prosperity. Their main economic profits come from the love renewal service and tourism.
The fox spirit lives in Western Region. They can swim in the sand like a fish. And they are afraid of water (except Fan Yunfei, who ate the Ancient Grand Drop).

Monster species living in the forest. In the nights of full moon, when their body touches the rainwater, they will become trees and cannot move anymore. They were using a certain kind of perfume that is poisonous for the insect families, and they later improved it to be harmless.
The first Daoist family that is able to defeat monsters by learning to use magic instruments. Their vital weapon is Wang Quan Sword. The family later split into two--Wang Family and Quan Family, after Yi Qi Dao League was built. Wang Family manages the league, while Quan Family watches over and researches Aolai.

Also called 狐妖近卫队 (Fox Spirit Royal Guard), it is the police force of Tushan. Each member of the team has at least 300 years of magic studying experience.
The hero of the story. A young Daoist who is stingy about money but cares about Tushan Susu, has an ordinary appearance but an extraordinary magic power and has a mysterious relationship with people in Nation of Aolai. Tear of the Void lives in his right eye. Tushan Susu calls him Brother Daoist (道士哥哥).
The heroine of the story. A cute, energetic, immature Fox Spirit girl who is the finance of Bai Yuechu. She is the powerless state of Tushan Honghong after the love renewal with Dongfang Yuechu, but she still has the ability to endure the attack of Tear of the Void. She has become a lawful matchmaker with the help of Bai Yue Chu, who later becomes the exclusive partner of her in executing matchmaking tasks.
The young master of the Wang Family, which is a major family in Yi Qi Dao League. He hates his bad-tasted name and dislikes people calling that in public. He is the reincarnation of Wangquan Fugui, and object of love renewal with Qingtong.
The ex-master of Tushan. The strongest power throughout the land. She helped and adopted Dongfang Yuechu when he was a boy and being chased by his enemies. She later fell in love with Yuechu and made the Pledge of Love before Yuechu died and sacrificed all her spirit power and memories.
The current head of Tushan, younger sister of Tushan Honghong. She is a tall, cold, noble, and strong fox spirit. She is good at ice magic and good at drinking. She had some misunderstanding with Dongfang Yuechu when Yuechu left Tushan so that she dislikes his reincarnation Bai Yuechu, but hopes that Bai Yuehu can bring her elder sister Honghong back.
The second in command of Tushan, and a short, cute, clever, powerful younger sister of Tushan Yaya. And she is good at accounting so that Tushan is managed into a luxury place for the rich. She also manages the love renewal matchmaking service and other internal affairs in Tushan.
Father of Bai Yuechu, stingy and ordinary Daoist like Yue Chu. He seems to have a covered relationship with the outer world and the identity of his wife is still unknown.
The spider spirit who was saved by and fell in love with Wangquan Fugui. And she later prayed for love renewal with Fugui. When searching for Fugui's afterlife, she lost her spider body while being attacked by Bai Yuechu and reborn her human body in the help of the grandfather of Wang Fugui. Her real identity was a spy sent from Southern Nation but she defected after she met Fugui.
A Daoist lived in more than 500 years ago. He is the son of Dongfang Qinlan, so he inherited the ability of Dongfang Family using Pure Yang Flame. Because of his valuable ability, he was being chased by many different factions from his childhood. He later sheltered in Tushan and fell in love with Tushan Honghong. But he left Tushan when he became an adult since he had a big plan to make the world a better place. He was pursuing his career in the whole life. Before he died, he created Tear of the Void, and used it as the key to renewing his love with Tushan Honghong.
Son of Wangquan Baye and Dongfang Huaizhu. He, and the Wangquan Sword, were the ultimate weapon of Wangquan Family used to fight spirits. However, touched by the action of Qingtong, he finally decided to leave Wangquan Family and never kill monsters anymore. Qingtong and he made a Pledge of Love.
Used by Tushan Fox Spirit matchmakers. To use, matchmakers will hit a spirit/human couple on the head simultaneously with the hammer. If successful it will cause them to remember memories from their previous life together. Rongrong shows Susu an advanced technique that works on non-lover couples, using Wang Fugui and Bai Yuechu as an example, causing them to partially recall their previous life's history together.
A magical instrument/technique cultivated by Dongfang Yuechu. It resides in the right eye of Bai Yuechu at present. It has the power of distorting/manipulating the space-time. Tushan Susu / Honghong is immune to its power (due to her Invincible Claws which allow her to hold any magic instrument and because the Tear was the vessel Dongfang gave to her and used in their Pledge of Love). The Matchmaker Book previously belonging to Honghong, the Book of Pure Love, is split in half by its power.
The instrument is originally held by a group of robbers in the Western Region. And later Fan Yunfei acquired it and used it as the key to renewing his love for the Ice General. It is said to bring misfortune to the Sand Fox clan, due to the Ehuishou that would always appear when the two halves were brought together.

The ice elemental weapon of the Ice General which can cut through nearly anything, including people and buildings alike.
An instrument developed by Tushan Fox Spirits to put out Pure Yang Flame. It is stored in a large container and summoned by Tushan Fox Spirits when needed.
A unique ability of Dongfang Family which lives in their blood. The female members of the clan can transfer their spirit energy along with this ability to her child at birth. It is supposed to have gone extinct hundreds of years ago after Dongfang Yuechu met his demise, but was re-discovered by Bai Yuechu (being his reincarnation). The Pure Yang Flame is feared by spirits throughout the world, due to its ability to harm them. Tushan Honghong's hands became immune to the flames after Dongfang treats her hands for 3 months. As a parting gift, Dongfang filled an unused warehouse in Tushan with Pure Yang Flame, allowing the Tushan Fox Spirits to summon it with a simple spell.
Due to the different lifetime of humankind and monsters, the love between human and monster could not last long from the monsters' point of view. Therefore, Tushan Fox Spirits developed this technique that restores the memory of human from their past life, so the love of the past life can be recovered. (See Afterlife Love Renewal)
A kind of parasite living on Tree of Bitter Love who eats the love of the past lives. They have no physically touchable body. People inside their body would be surrounded by misfortune. During the process of love renewal, these monsters should be eliminated.

A delicious candy sold by The Spirits' Candy House. Bai Yuechu is addicted to it, and always asks Tushan Susu for it when she asked for help.
