Void Tear (虚空之泪 Xukong zhi Lei) is a powerful spacetime move used by Bai Yuechu and previously Dongfang Yuechu. A tear drips from the user's eyes, and the user is able to control the tear as a magical liquid to dissolve enemies in spacetime. Lady Heihu's main goal is to steal the full power of the Void Tear for herself.
Name[]
Xukong Zhilei roughly means 'Tear of the Void' or simply 'Void Tear' for short.
Xukong Zhilei is roughly pronounced shü-kong jer-lay (ü between an 'ee' and 'uu' sound, 'o' as in 'cone', 'jer' as in 'jerkey').
Users[]
- Dongfang Yuechu was able to use it with both eyes and summon the most powerful form of Xukong Zhilei. Dongfang used his right eye as a fabao for his pledge of love with Honghong.
- However, Heihu Queen took his left eye and is able to use Xukong Zhilei. In order for Heihu Queen to obtain the full power of Xukong Zhilei, Bai Yuechu and Susu must marry, so that the full power of Bai's right eye Xukong Zhilei can be unleashed.
- As the reincarnation of Dongfang Yuechu, Bai Yuechu is able to use the Xukong Zhilei, though he only possesses half of it in his right eye, the other half was taken away by Heihu.
Description[]
Bai's right eye starts leaking a magical liquid that allows him to use overpowered moves such as Tear Blade that can bend spacetime and cut through almost manything. When it hits the target, it tears them apart, boiling and disintegrating their body into many pieces in spacetime.
Xukong Zhilei is the most powerful magic weapon in heaven or earth, able to control time and space. Cultivating and acquiring this magic artifact is extremely difficult as it not only requires the highest level of Daoist spirit power mastery, but also requires its creation to be born out of sincere romantic affection and sorrow. This makes it significantly difficult to produce as most Daoists live stoic and detached lives free of burdensome emotions in their pursuit of perfection.
The strength of Xukong Zhilei is proportionate to the devotion to a loved one or the sorrow endured by an individual. It has been stated that Bai Yuechu has not experienced such devotion, so his Tears of the Void does not come close to its actual strength.
Only Dongfang Yuechu has ever produced the complete Xukong Zhilei. This is because he went on a journey around the world to realize Honghong's dream and in the end made a Love Pledge with her before dying.
Countering Xukong Zhilei[]
It is possible to counter this overpowered spacetime move.
Tushan Honghong is capable of touching and handling it with her Invincible Claws because it was given to her as a gift by Dongfang Yuechu and their vessel used in the Pledge of Love.
Due to the Void Tears' incomplete form, when Bai Yuechu was possessed and using it to attack Tushan Yaya, she was able to freeze it using the ultimate ice magic skill: Absolute Zero.
Tushan Rongrong also mentions that while the Tears are indeed invincible magical artifacts, its owner is not invincible and that they might still be outsmarted, or outplayed by a superior technique such as when Shi Kuan outsmarted Bai Yuechu and was able to use the Void Tear against him. She warns Bai Yuechu not to use them in a serious battle until he has mastered them as they may be just as deadly to its wielder as to its target.
Lady Heihu's Plot[]
It is an object of immense desire for the Shadow Fox Empress. She stole one half of it when she killed Dongfang and defeated Honghong, but was stopped from obtaining the both parts when Honghong and Dongfang used it as their Pledge Vessel. She awaits for Dongfang's reincarnation so she can acquire the other half from him and is the major point of contention that the story revolves around. As Dongfang's reincarnation, Bai Yuechu currently has the other half which is stored in his right eye.
What Lady Heihu plans to do with the complete Void Tear is unknown, but may involve rewriting history by using its abilities to control time and space.
Donghua[]
It is first used in Season 2 Episode 17 to prevent Qingtong escaping, but inadvertently rips Susu's Tianshu in half. Xunkong Zhilei is a power that Yaya was trying to force out of Bai by giving him spring onions (洋葱) to make him cry. She does this to make sure that Bai truly is the reincarnation of Dongfang Yuechu.
In Episode 26, Yaya says Xukong Zhilei may be the most powerful magic in the world.
In Episode 34, Huoshen explains that: Xukong Zhilei is born from feelings of complete sincerity (including love). However, most Daoists who can use it are free from world desires (including love), making it extremely difficult to master. However, when Dongfang travels the world and fulfills his love Honghong's wish to end fighting between humans and spirits, Dongfang is able to master the magic.
