Yan Ruyu (颜如玉) is a Bull Spirit from Kongxian Mountain, disciple of Tushan Rongrong, a master of shapeshifting, and Xiao Wen's lover.
He was insecure about his true appearance, which he considered hideous, and used his shapeshifting abilities to fool others. After leaving Tushan, he roamed the world as a thief and womanizer, only to change his ways after he fell in love with Lü Jianwen.
Appearance[]

His true appearance is that of an ugly bull spirit, bearing two horns, brown hair, a big red nose, blue skin with brown spots, a large flat chin, and two big ears. He wears nothing but bage khakis with a leather belt.
But with his shapeshifting powers he can appear however he wishes.
His usual human appearance is that of a (more) handsome young man with brown hair, brown eyes, sharp chin, small nose, and a white jerkin with a blue cape tied around his neck.
Personality[]
He is a rogue and enjoys flirting with the ladies, while initially viewing his romantic tromps as harmless, he eventually came to realize there was more to love than one night stand's and fell in love with Lv Jianwen. In the beginning of the anime he was a villain working for the Shadow Foxes, but eventually remembered his past and was able to redeem himself and put a stop to the Shadow Foxes plans, but not before losing a considerable amount of his original Spirit Power.
History[]
Born an ugly bull spirit, he became Tushan Rongrong's disciple to learn shapeshifting magic to conceal his true form. After gaining the ability to transform into anything, including handsome men, he goes on a womanizing spree, stealing the beautiful daughters of people all over, bringing him a bad name.
Lv Jianwen first meets Yan while he is seen killing a person who beat up their dad.
One day Yan kisses Lv Jianwen without her consent, with makes her mad. She along with the Yiqidao league goes on a search and hunt mission to capture him.
However he rescues Lv from Chisha Modao. She thanked him by not arresting him, but he still wanted to seduce her because he was in love with her.
At Rongrong's advice, he learned how to pick up girls normally (without threats or force). He tried to give Miss Wen a present--two thieves he captured since he knew she liked catching criminals. However she locks him up for his past crimes.
When Lv confronts and is overpowered by Chilei again, Yan rescues her. However she locks him up again.
On his way to prison through the desert, she enters his carriage and takes him to the Tushan Kuqing Tree, where she sneakily gets him to make a Heart Oath by asking him a series of questions. On his way back, Yan discovers that his Serene Amber Horn is glowing and realizes that it was used as a fabao and that his answers to Lv's questions were actually his Heart Oath. He celebrates as he realizes that Lv loves him.
Present[]
A Black Fox demon possessed him and manipulated his memories of Lv, causing him to hate her and remember his past wrong. Rongrong, Bai Yuechu, and Susu try to save him and restore his love for Lv by getting him to join Lv's play and to save her from the Chisha Modao.
Abilities[]
- Shapeshifter (易容术 Yirong Shu): He learned from Rongrong how to change his appearance at will, while he can change his outward appearance he cannot hide his scent from Lv Jianwen's sharp nose and she is able to see past his deceptions.
- Full Moon Palm (望月拳)
- In beast form, he is a skilled digger that can create mud defenses to hide himself or travel through burnt rocks surrounding volcanoes.
- Having grown up in Kongxian shan around fire, in beast form he is fire resistant.
